Lawyers and Lies

Imagine you're a nationally known lawyer and politician who has worked for years to build a reputation such that you can be taken seriously for the highest office in the land. Suddenly some sleaze gossip magazine makes up vicious lies and damages you reputation. If I were such a person my first instinct would to file a libel suit and clean out their bank account just like I would do to a doctor.

And how did John Edwards reply back in December when the story first broke before this attack by the National Enquirer ?
"Edwards responded: 'The story is false. It's completely untrue, ridiculous,' adding: 'Anyone who knows me knows that I have been in love with the same woman for 30-plus years.' "
Here it is seven months later and still no legal action has been taken. Some times it is what one doesn't say that points to the truth. But then what lawyer would have anything to do with the truth ?

Update: In step with Liberal Fascism, you know those that promote the idea of the People's right to know, the LA Times asks it bloggers to suppress the story.

Update: So who lives in a reality-based world ?

And I believe that quote about the woman he's loved for 30 years was from back in December when this story initially broke.

You would be correct. Thanks for the catch.
