Shinola Award

After last night's Democratic's debate on CNN I think it is time to dust off the the IOpian View Shinola Award to the most clueless statements uttered by people that should know better.

The contestants provided the judges with a large quantity of Shinola moments and the selection was difficult.

Here are a couple of samples of the techniques that put the winner over the top.

Subtle Kennedy comparison:

" I recall what John F. Kennedy once said, that we should never negotiate out of fear, but we should never fear to negotiate. And this moment, this opportunity when Fidel Castro has finally stepped down, I think, is one that we should try to take advantage of."

(APPLAUSE)

Here's the 'why you're not like Kennedy' counter-argument:

"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty."
... except of course those 56 million Iraqis.

Then there was this gem that is all the rage today:

" You know, I've heard from an Army captain who was the head of a rifle platoon -- supposed to have 39 men in a rifle platoon. Ended up being sent to Afghanistan with 24 because 15 of those soldiers had been sent to Iraq. And as a consequence, they didn't have enough ammunition, they didn't have enough humvees. They were actually capturing Taliban weapons, because it was easier to get Taliban weapons than it was for them to get properly equipped by our current commander in chief.

Now, that's a consequence of bad judgment."

How true. Let me remind the winner that one of Congresses' enumerated powers is:

To raise and support armies, but no appropriation of money to that use shall be for a longer term than two years.

When an enemy is intent with fighting a war for generations to destroy western civilation we are fighting a war between election cycles using appropriations as a political football. Senators, it is your party that is exhibiting bad judgment.

So it now is my honor to announce the winner:

Sen. Barak Hussein Obama !!

SENATOR... THIS IS SHINOLA

Good comments and points. You are right... not ready for primetime. And it was just 2 years ago.

Saw the photo and downloaded. MY first thought was oh yeah Mr and Mrs Parker ( life long democrats and really nice elderly folks that are Roosevelt dems, you know back when democrats weren't lunatics ) are reeeaaalllly going to love this.

And not exactly a way to pique the interests of flyover independents like me. Want a stupid move. Not accidental, not thougtless, not dumb but stoopid.
